Morgan receives award from Georgia Pharmacy Association

Harris Morgan, R.Ph. is the 1999 recipient of the prestigious Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award presented by the Georgia Pharmacy Association (GPhA) and sponsored by DuPont Pharma.

The award is designed to honor the accomplishments of pharmacists on the "cutting edge" of the profession. The award is presented in every state to pharmacists who advance the profession of patient-oriented pharmacy care services and was presented to Morgan at the 124th GPhA Annual Convention held at the Grove Park Inn Resort in Ashville, N.C.

Morgan is a 1975 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. He is a community pharmacist and owner of Thrift Center Pharmacy in Camilla.

He began practicing pharmacy in Camilla in 1977, and in the ensuing years has been quite innovative in his approach to the profession. In 1986, he opened Option Care of Southwest Georgia, a home health, infusion and IV therapy company. He also founded the Camilla Retirement Home in 1986, and has since expanded those services twice. In 1998, Morgan opened Option Care Disease Management. He is actively involved in disease management and is actively promoting pharmacy care services to local employers throughout the community.

Morgan has been an involved and influential member of the Pharmacy Association since 1976, serving on several committees and is also an active member of the Association's Academy of Independent Pharmacy (AIP). In addition, he is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association.

Morgan is also active in the community, serving as director of the Boys and Girls Club of Camilla, a member and past president of the Rotary Club and Camilla Chamber of Commerce. He has been the recipient of the Camilla Chamber of Commerce President's Award and Citizen of the Year Award. He is member and treasurer of the St. Francis Episcopal Church.

Morgan and his wife, Linda, have two children. The family currently resides in Camilla.
